Notes
From Fulgham-Fulghum Family Database
Ann Izard could not be the daughter of Richard Izard and Rebecca Bracewell because Rebecca did not marry Richard until ca 1670. As an offspring from this jointure, Ann would not have been marriagable until ca 1686. Michael Fulgham and Ann began having children in 1675. Ann had to have been from a prior marriage of Richard Izard's ... and John Feveryear married Ann in about 1669. John Feveryear's will specifically mentions wife Ann and Father-in-law Richard Izard and so there can be little doubt that there was, in 1669, an Ann Feveryear nee Izard, daughter of Richard Izard. However, she was not the daughter of Rebecca Bracewell. The author has not found a record of Richard Izard's first wife, mother of Ann. A slight possiblility is that Michael Fulgham married Ann Feveryear, sister of John Feveryear, instead of Ann Feveryear nee Izard but that would fly in the face of Chapman and forever leave the enigma of where Ann Feveryear nee Izard fit in. The will of John Ffeneryeare was devised in Isle of Wight County, Virginia on March 17, 1668 and proven May 3, 1669 (Isle of Wight County, Virginia Will and Deed Book 2, 1666-1719, p. 64). In his will, Ffeneryeare left his brother Edmund one thousand pounds of tobacco to be paid out of the crop of 1670, his sister Ann Ffeneryeere one black and white heifer four years old and one three year old black heifer, Richard Smookum one year of his time of indenture, Mary Pope daughter of Thomas Pope one cow and calf, and William Frizell son of William Frizell one cow calf. The rest of his estate was left to wife Ann Ffeneryeere, who was appointed sole executrix. John Burnell and Francis Elliott witnessed the will. A postscript to the will states: ?before Sealeinge, My Will is, that my Well beloved father-in-law, Mr Richard Izard, to be my Overseer to see this my will and testamt performed. ?In Isle of Wight County, Virginia Administrations and Probates,p. 19, it states that John Ffeneryeare by his will appointed Ann his relict Executrix, May 3, 1669 (Registered September 23,1669). Mr. Izard and Mr. Thomas Green were her securities. On September 14, 1670, Michael Fulgham obtained a land patent for 100 acres of escheated land ?in right of his wife? (VirginiaLand Patent Book 6, Parts I and II, 1666-1679, p. 307). This was the land of John Ffeneryeare. Unfortunately, the original patent is very difficult to read and is partially obliterated in the digitized copy on the Library of Virginia web site.
