When Andrew Jackson Salter was born on March 7, 1825, in Conecuh, Alabama, his father, William, was 32 and his mother, Pheobe, was 18. He married Beatrice Ophelia Grace on December 5, 1850, in Monroe, Alabama. They had 11 children in 23 years. He died on March 18, 1899, in Monroe, Alabama, at the age of 74, and was buried there.
