About Amon ., 14th King of Judah
From about 743 BCE Judah was in political turmoil and fear due to the Assyrian expansions towards the west and invasions of Judah from 701 BCE with massacres of its inhabitants.
King Amon was one of the kings of Judea who chose compliance with the Assyrian military domination rather than "futile opposition" to Assyria and further massacres of Judeans.
These compliances to Assyria included permitting and cooperating with Baal worship and other "increased Assyrian cultural influences". The "conservative elements" of Judean society "felt this to endanger religious values " and "the reaction came in 640 BCE - Amon.was murdered". Instead, Amon's son Josiah was enthroned at the age of eight, under the control of "priestly and prophetic circles".
Born about 620 BC. He was 22 years old when he became kind & reigned for 2 years. He restored idolatry & set up the images which his father had cast down. Died about 641 BC. His officers conspired against him & assassinated him in his palace.
