WOODS, Alice, w. Nathaniel, [died] Jan. 10, 1717-18, in her 45th y. GR2 [Age 44, so birth before Jan 1674, i.e., about 1673. GR2=Shirley, Old Cemetery]

Children

Nathaniel and Alice Goble Woods had 12 children:

  1. Nathaniel Woods 1694–1732
  2. Daniel Woods 1696–1725
  3. John Woods 1698–1782
  4. Isaac Woods 1700–1775
  5. Bathsheba Woods Moore, Town 1702–1773
  6. Hannah Woods Farmer, Wright 1704–1738
  7. Phebe Woods #1 1706–1713
  8. Aaron Woods 1707–1794
  9. Moses Wood 1709–1755
  10. Reuben Woods 1711–1774
  11. Phebe Woods Tufts 1713–1755
  12. Jonathan Woods 1716–1755

Some sources have claimed she was the daughter of Joshua Whitney, however she is not mentioned in his will. In fact there is no record of Joshua having a daughter named Alice. He did mention a daughter "wife to Thomas Woods" but this was his daughter Hannah.

My theory is that Alice was the daughter of Daniel and Hannah Goble. The dates and names of her children seem to fit with this idea, as she had a son Daniel and a daughter Hannah, and Alice Goble was born at about the right time (and there is no further record of her.)

Update: further proof was found. See my article in NEHGR

NOTE: Alice Goble was born Sept. 11, 1673, in Concord, Mass. Her name was spelled "Ealce" in the birth record.
