ALICE MAE FITZGERALD MURPHEY 1914-2007 MRS. MURPHEY died at The Methodist Hospital in Houston on the 18th of October, 2007 after a brief illness. She was 93 years of age. Alice Mae was born in Caldwell, Texas on the 14th of April, 1914. She was the daughter of John and Alice Mae Fitzgerald and granddaughter of Elmina Hill. She was educated in Burnett and Brownwood and attended Howard Payne College, where she was a pep squad leader. She and her husband, Marcus Murphey, lived in Dallas, Boston, and San Diego and made their permanent home in Houston in the 1940's. Alice Mae was President of the Houston Women's Dental Auxiliary, a volunteer for The Methodist Hospital Blue Bird Clinic and the Heritage Society, and a member of the River Oaks Garden Club. She was a devoted mother to daughters, Sharon and Marcia, and devoted grandmother to Malcolm and Marc. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia, and son-in-law, Doug Koch, and grandson, Malcolm Stevenson; daughter-in-law, Laure; great grand-daughter, Violette Alice. Alice Mae is also survived by her sister-in-law Elois Murphey and by nephews Willis and Griffin Murphey of Fort Worth, Peter Paulus of Fort Worth, John Murphey of Dallas, and Frank Fitzgerald of Prosper, Texas. In addition, she is survived by her nieces Linda Fitzgerald Petty of Poetry, Texas, Mary Jane Murphey Harmon of Houston, and Patsy Murphey Whitman of Stamford, Connecticut, and by Kathy O'Halloran Farrell of Burlington, Vermont. Alice Mae's colorful and indomitable spirit is an inspiration to her family. A gathering of family and friends for a graveside service and the interment will begin at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 3rd of November, 2007 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston. Pastor Robert Moore of Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church will preside. Also, for family and friends, a celebration of Alice Mae's life and work will be held at her daughter's home after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alice Mae's name may be given to the Susan B. Komen for the Cure Foundation, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Ste. 250, Dallas, Texas 75244.
