Alice (Collier) Maris was born in Worcestershire, England.

Alice was baptized 13 March 1600 in Ombersley, Worcestershire. She was the daughter of Henry Collyer and Francisca Jones[1].

Alice married George Maris on 20 Jun 1622 in Bradley[2], Worcestershire. Their children were:

1. Anne (Maris) Bestford (<1623 - >1683)
2. Richard Maris (<1626 - <1686)
3. Francis Maris (<1628 - <1671)
4. Elizabeth (Maris) Bartlambe (<1631 - >1665)
5. George Maris (~1632 - 1704)
6. Mary Maris (1638 - <1664).

She wrote her will on 18 August 1664[3][2]. It is exceptionally detailed and shows she was a relatively wealthy woman.

Alice died in 1666 in Grafton Flyford, Worcestershire aged about sixty-six. Her will was proved 7 July 1666[2].

Last Will & Testament
In the Name of God Amen l Alice Maris of Grafton flyford in the County of Worcester widdow beinge weake in boddy, but of Good and perfect m[e]mory praysed be the Allmighty doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in Manner and [%EF%AC%82orme followinge. etc.

lmprimis l give and bequeath unto my Children and to th[e]ir Children severall Legaeyes in manner and forme following to be paid within on yeare after the deeease of Mary B[o}und now Wife to Thomas Bound of Upton upon Seavorn in the said County of Worcester Gent out ofthe Land[s] called and known by the Ox Leasow in the parrish of Hanbury and County of Worcester aforesaid, in the tean[ur]e and occupaeon of Christopher dison of downes Alias Hollowftelds in the parrish of Hanbury aforesaid And allsoe out of the sume of twenty pounds in the possession of my Son Richard Maris due to Bond, [an]d payable within on year afler the deeease of the said Mary Bound.

Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Bes[t]f0rd <out> of the above-named money and Lands fifty pounds to be paid at the time above said.

ltem I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizab[et]h <Bartlambe Alias> Sale and to her heyres fifiy pounds to be paid at the time aforesaid.

Item I give and bequeath unto Alice Maris daughter of Richard Maris five pounds to be paid at the time aforesaid.

ltem l give and bequeath unto Alice Maris daughter of George Maris five pounds to be paid at the time aforesaid.

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonn Francis Maris ninety pounds being part of the sume to be paid out of the said Lands and money to be paid at the time aforesaid. But if it shall or doe come to pass that the said Francis Maris his heyrs executors or Assignes shall have and enjoye or be given unto the said Francis Maris ten pounds per Annum of Hollowfields grounds or to the value of two hundred pounds by vertue of the Will and testament of Ann dison deceased late wife to Henry dison. or otherwise ordered by or with her consent, that then it shall be as followeth. l give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Bestford ten pounds and to my sonn Francis Maris ten pounds and to my sonn Richard Maris his son George ten pounds, And to my son George Maris his son <George> fifieene pounds and to my daughter Elizabeth <Banlambe Alias> Sale twenty five pounds, And to my sonn George Maris his daughter Alice Maris ten pounds, and the remaininge t[e]n pounds to my sonn Richard Maris, But if the said Francis Maris shall not have to the value of t[e]n pounds per Annum in Hollowfields or to the value of two hundred pounds then my Will is, that he the said Francis Maris shall have all the aforesaid ninety pounds, as before bequeathed.

Item l give and bequeath to my daughter Ann B[e]stford my biggest kettle on closse tubb one new pewter plate with on (M) on the side, on little cubard on bed made ofCanvis on Bolster with blew on the end on longe blankett made of Lincey foure table Napkins two hurden sheetes, on petticoate with five laces, on Holland aprone, on tasfaly quaife and gorget, and halfe my small linnens as for my head and the like.

Item I give unto my son Richard Maris his Wife my best gowne.

Item I give unto my son George Maris his wife on western Carzy petticoate, on broadcloath wastcoate, my best hatt except on, on lead coloured bed cloth, on b[l]anket reawed with blacke

Item I give unto my sonn George Maris on posnett two pewter platters with (M) on the sides on saltinge trough on skeele one warminge pann, and on old wayscourt chaire.

Item I give unto my son George Maris his daughter on pewter platter with (M:a:r) on the side and on Barrell

Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Bartlambe Alias Sale one Gowne on Caster Hatt on tasfaly scarfe, on Holland Aprone_ and the other half of my small Linnens. and my best ridinge coate and safeguard and saddle cloth, and all the rest of my petticoates and wastcoates that are not above disposed of and fowre table napkins, two hurden sheetes, on hurden table cloth and on Barrell.

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonn Francis Maris ten pounds, and to my sonn George Maris his <two> Children five pounds apeece, And to my daughter Ann Bestford ten pounds, and to my daughter Elizabeth Bartlambe Alias Sale ten pounds, And to my sonn Richard Maris ten pounds, But ifthat Fitty pound doe become payable unto Thomas darby, which was to he paid when he did Estate his wife in the Ground called Kithow Greene in the parrish of lnkborrough in the aforesaid County Then doe I acquitt my Executors for any further payinge the last mentioned fiftty pounds, to my sonn Francis and my son George his two Children, my daughter Ann My daughter Elizabeth and my son Richard But if the said fifty pounds doe not become payable to Thomas darby, then shall the said sum of fitty pounds be paid to the partyes aforesaid, within eight years afier the date of these presents.

Item I give unto William Bartlambe Alias Sale son of William Bartlambe Alias Sale twenty pounds and to his daughter Elizabeth ten pounds, to be paid forthwith and one elm Coffer on paire of flaxon sheetes on bed stun with flox and feathers, on feather boulster on Chirme and staff on reele on paire of tongues on paire of bellaee_ on truell on white thromer Cloth,

Item I give and bequeath unto Margaret Court ten shillings to be paid unto her within on yeare after my decease allsoe on paire of hurden sheetes.

Item l give and bequeath unto my son Richard Maris his son Richard on Iron drippinge pann on Malt Mill, And tenn shillings in moneyes,

Item I give and bequeath unto John Bartlambe Alias Sale the sonn of William Bartlambe Alias Sale on Iron Broach on dresser and on paire of Cobirons on truck bedstead on pewter chamber pot and ten shillings in moneyes.

Item l give unto all the rest of my Children Children (in beinge) that are nut before named ten shillings to each of them.

Item l give and bequeath unto Margaret Co__ re [torn], three wooden dyshes and two wooden platters and two pewter spoones, 7- - - . f_I\1 11 pillow ,one blanket with a peice in the middle, one halfe dosen of trenchers.

Item I give and bequeath unto William Veale t__ [torn] shillings and sixpence, in moneyes

Item I give and bequeath unto Mr. John Darby [fiv?]e shillings to buy him on paire of gloves to weare for my sake, whom I shall underneath nomin[at]e overseer of this my Last will and Testament.

Lastly I give and bequeath unto my sons Richa[r]d Marys, Henery Bestford, Francis Maris and William Bartlambe Alias Sale, all the rest [of] my Goods Chattels and moneyes not disposed of whom I make executors of this my Last will a[nd] testament Likewise l make and orclaine my Lovinge friend Mr. John darby Rector of the parrish of Gr[a]fton flyford Overseer thereof. ln Wittnes wherof l doe publishe and declare this my last will And [t]estament (containinge two sheetes of paper) this eighteenth day of August Anno domini one th[ou]sand six hundred sixty and foure and in the sixteenth yeare of the Reigne ofour Soveraigne Lord Char[le]s the second etc.
