The following biography appears in multiple family trees. However there are no known sources that support her existence nor any of this history, and this biography should be considered speculative and unreliable unless sources are found.

Alice [Ann] Burwell was born 1612 in England.

She married Richard Lane on 11 Jan 1661.

Their children may have included Thomas Lane, born about 1634.

She died in the Virginia Colony, possibly about 1680.

Research Notes

If she emigrated from England in the 1600s, then it should be possible to find her on a passenger list from that period. No good candidates are known:

Alice Lane came to Virginia in the Bona Nova in 1618/1620. She is listed in the 1624/1625 muster as 24 years old (born around 1600), apparently as wife of Thomas Lane. No further records are known for her. This Alice is too old and married to another Lane.

Alice Burwell born 1612 in England arrived in Boston in 1637 with her husband John Burwell. This Alice did not marry a Lane (her second marriage was Peck), and she died in 1666 in Connecticut.

Her name is sometimes listed as Alice Ann. However double names were not common in that period. This suggests confusion over the person.

The supposed son Thomas Lane was born in 1634, which is not consistent with marriage in 1661.

No record found for marriage of Richard Lane and Alice Burwell in England or Virginia at that time. However on 11 Jun 1661, Thomas Lane married Elizabeth Jones. This marriage record may have been misinterpretted.

There was an Alice Carter who married Richard Lane, she was born about 1603 in London, England. They lived in England and the Bahamas. She returned to England after her husband died, where she died in 1678. Their children were Samuel, John and Oziel.
