The remains of Alexander McKinney and five of his family were moved from their original place of burial to Tygre Baptist Cemetery, Greenville Co, SC. A memorial was placed on his grave...

"In memory of Alexander McKinney 1762 - 1837 Settled in Upper Greenville County before 1790. He and five of his family and 14 unknowns were originally buried in area now covered by North Saluda Reservoir. Remains reinterred here June 24, 1957. Erected by Descendants of Wilson P. McKinney, 1851 - 1931."

Will of Alexander McKinney... Greenville County Court House, Greenville, SC, Will Book B, Page 164-165, file #310.

"In the Name of God Amen. I, Alexander McKinney of the district of Greenville and State of South Carolina, being in sound disposing memory and understanding to make this my last will and testimony recommending my soul to God and my body to the dust to be decently buried at the discretion of my friends and executors and for my wordly living I desire the same should be distributed in the following viz.

I will to my beloved wife five hundred dollars in cash viz, I give to my daughter Salley Hood five dollars in cash. I give to my son John McKinney five dollars in cash. I give to my daughter Nancy Southerlin twelve hundred and ninety two dollars in cash, I give to my daughter Mary Hood, five hundred and forty two dollars in cash, I give to my daughter Elizabeth Smith seven hundred and ninety three dollars in cash. I give to my daughter Anny Hood five dollars in cash. I give to Neely Hendrix one thousand acres of land on the middle fork of Saluda River known as the Wm Cooke tract to her and her heirs forever. I give to my grand-daughter Wyzetty McKinney a tract of land on the mountain near John Phillips on the waters of Fall Creek. I give Joseph McKinney and James McKinney and Dosha Spriggs and Milly Barton all the balance of my hole estate to be equally divided between the last four children I have mentioned in this will that is to say Joseph McKey and Jas McKeny, Dosha Spriggs and Milly Barton.

I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my son James McKinney and Joseph McKinney my sole executors of this my last will and testament and hereby revoking and making void all and every will or wills at any other time heretofore by me made and declare this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto the named Alexander McKinney and I have hereonto set my hand and seal this twenty first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty six."

Signed sealed and declared and published by the above named Alexander McKinney and for my last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his presence have suscribed our names as witness thereof. Alexander McKinney (X) his mark.

Proved before John Watson, Esq. ordinary the 4th day of November 1837, from which probate an appeal was taken, the court of common pleas for Greenville district having confirmed the decision fall term 1838. An appeal was taken to the appeal court, which court at their December session 1838 finally confirmed the will. (Record in Will Book B-Page 164-5, file #310. Greenville County Courthouse)

...(NOTE: "Not listed in the will for unknown reasons but thought to be children. Appendix to records on Alexander's will shows an executor of Alexander, Jr, named Staton, came to Greenville to claim a son's share of Alexander's estate for the widow and daughter of Alexander, Jr. Records show his, Staton's, charges as covering a trip to Georgia and Kentucky in making this inheritance claim."
