

Believed to be the son of Thomas Maddox OF LONDON and his wife (no name given in Miles Files now).
An alternative source (cited at https://colonial-settlers-md-va.us/getperson.php?personID=I36764&tr... ) claims that his father may actually have been one John Maddock, gent., of Hitchin, Hertfordshire.
Alexander Maddox I M, b. 1613, d. before 4 April 1660
Alexander was born in 1613 at ENGLAND (NOT Wales!).1 He was probably the person shown as Alexander Maddox, aged 22, who came from London to Virginia on the Abraham in 1635.1 He married Elizabeth Johnson (Johnson?) circa 1644. Alexander was named as administrator of an estate on 4 June 1648 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that administration on the estate of Gabriell Sheirle or Searle was granted to Alexander Maddox. Appraisers John Hinman, Stephen Horsey, Christopher Kirke & Nicholas Waddeloe.2 On 25 Mar 1651 Allexander Madoxe was on a list of men who promised to be faithful to the Commonwealth of England as it is now established without King or House of Lords.3 He married Ellinor 'Ellen' White, daughter of Ensign Lewis White and Kathryne (nn), before 1851.4 Alexander made a will on 10 January 1659/60 at Nassawadox, Northampton Co, VA. He was shown as Alexander Mattocks, planter, of Nasswattokes. To my lawful wife Ellinor Mattocks 1/3 of all my estate during her widowhood or until my eldest son shall be of age to possess the same. The residue of my estate to be eq. div. by my children, viz., my eldest son Thomas Mattocks, my 2nd son Alexander Mattocks, my 3rd son Lazarus Mattocks, and my eldest dau. Elizabeth Fisher wife of Philip Fisher. That part of my estate which falls to my dau. Elizabeth to go for her and her issue, and if she dies without issue, then her share to be div. by my other children and also my 2nd dau. Ann Mattocks. To my sons Thomas and Alexander the 300 A. plantation I now live upon, and the half moiety of a 516 A. patent that is betwixt me and James Jones, to be eq. div. My son Thomas extr. My friends Richard Bayly and Arthur Upshur to oversee. I appoint Richard Bayly guardian to my son Thomas and to oversee his estate. Arthur Upshur to be guardian to my son Alexander and to oversee his estate. My sons to be at age at 18. Witt: Richard (R) Teage, Nicholas (N) Lawrence.5 Alexander died before 4 April 1660 at Northampton Co, VA.5
