About Alexander Barclay, 6th Laird of Mathers
Alexander Barclay is the first of the family whose name is found by old evidence, and his own subscriptions, spelled as now, viz Barclay. He lived to an old age. Upon his son's marrying he put him in possession of the old estate, reserving Mathers to himself during life. He was reputed a scholar and something of a poet.
