Albreda de Harcourt

The parentage of Albreda is in dispute. Some family trees, such as this one, below, make her the daughter of Richard de Preaux and Adela d'Eu, while others say that her father was Humphrey de Vielles (de Harcourt), founder of the House of Beaumont. It would seem, however, that if the latter were the case, she would have been known as Albreda de Beaumont. However, the former researcher's claim that Albreda's mother was Adela d'Eu, daughter of Geoffrey Count of Brionne, seems to be unsubstantiated by any other sources, which detracts from his credibility. I suspect that her father was a Sire de Préaux, perhaps named Richard, but I do not feel assured as to the identity of her mother.

Albreda was born about 1030 in Preaux-Bocage, Calvados, Normandy, France.1 Albreda's father was Richard de Preaux and her mother was Adela d'Eu. Her maternal grandparents were Count Geoffroy FitzRichard Brionne and Hawise de Guines. She had two brothers named Ranulphus and Ingleran. She was the second oldest of the three children. She had five half-brothers named Roger, Nigel, William, Comte de Lassy Hughes and Yvron.
