About Alan, Earl of Menteith
Alexander, Earl of Menteith, married a lady named Matilda, and had issue -
Alan, Earl of Menteith (d. c. 1310) was, as his title suggests, Earl of Menteith.

He succeeded his father and was succeeded by his brother.
He supported King Robert I of Scotland (Bruce) in his initial attempt to seize power. He was captured at the Battle of Methven and died in an English dungeon.
Notes
Joined Robert Bruce in his claim to the throne of Scotland, and was captured by the English in 1306 and he died still in custody before 1330.
The successful termination of the War of Independence at the battle of Bannockburn restored the earldom to the Stewarts, and it was reunited under the younger son of Alexander, Murdach, the eighth Earl, who enjoyed the title after the death of his brother Alan, the seventh Earl.
Family
Alan, Earl of Menteith married Marjory or Margery, who has been shown to have been a daughter of Colbán, Earl of Fife by his wife Anne Durward.[3]
They had two sons, one of whom,
- Alan, succeeded his father as Earl when a minor.[4]

Earl Alexander & his wife had four children:
a) ALAN de Menteith (-before 13 Mar 1309). Hostage, with his younger brother Piers, for his father's fidelity to Edward I King of England in 1296. The Wardrobe Accounts of King Edward I for 1296/97 include payments to "Alano et Petro filiis comitis de Menetethe", dated 23 Jul[91]. He succeeded his father as Earl of Menteith.
