Agnes is the child of John Arderne and Margaret Gruffudd. She married John de Wetenhall.[1][2][3] "This John de Wetenhale...and Agnes his wife, obtained the manor of Wetenhale, by fine from Margery daughter to John de Arderne, II Edw. II."[4] This statement is derived from Williamson's Cheshire Evidences which is reported to say: "Jo. de Wetenhall Senr & Agnes his w. bt. [bought] from Margery d to Jo de Ardern ye Manr of Wetenhall cm p[] Nic de West put in his claime." [5][6] This is presumably what established the relationship; per one writer: "This document contains no explicit statement of relationship between Agnes and John Arderne. However, because such transfers frequently took place to resettle an inheritance within a family there has been a long history among antiquarians of assuming a relationship based on the existence of a fine."[7] Furthermore, in a discussion of the children of John Arderne and Margaret Griffin/Gruffydd, their issue included "other daughters who had settlements of land."[8]
After John's death, Agnes transferred the manor of Wetenhale to Robert de Paris in 21 Edward III (~1347).[9]
