About Abraham Jakob Lichtenstein
Abraham Jacob Lichtenstein (1806-1880), famous cantor, also sung at the Orienenburgstrasse synagogue in Berlin, Germany 1860s. Abraham Jacob Lichtenstein (1806-1880) was a cantor in Szczecin in the years 1833-1847. Invited by a famous Jewish composer Louis Lewandowski he went to Berlin, where he played an important role in the development of synagogue music. Lichtenstein himself had a strong and clear voice. He sang in Carl Löwe’s oratorio; he played also the violin. He turned the attention of the composer Max Bruch to Jewish music, which became the inspiration of his future pieces, among others to Kol Nidre,a piece performed in present times.
