About Abraham "Abe" Hoagland

He was the son of Elizabeth and William Hogeland.

On 26 October 1792 he was on the property tax roll of Lincoln County, Kentucky.

On 9 July 1793 in Washington County, Kentucky he first married Catherine Powell.

He was on the 1810 census of Green County, Kentucky.

During the War of 1812 he served in Kentucky's mounted militia in Captain Hardesty's Company, 2nd Regiment.

He settled on a creek below Hayden, Alabama and it became known as Hogeland Creek.

On the 1830 census of Blount County, Alabama he was unmarried.

On 29 November 1831 in Blount County, Alabama he married again to Elizabeth McAnally.

On 27 November 1841 his death was mentioned in the Orphan's Court Records of Jefferson County, Alabama:

"Abraham Hogeland, deceased. Heirs: William Hogeland, Anthony Hogeland, Polly Crownover, Mary Hopper, Elizabeth Holt and Eliza McAnally, all of whom are of age and Amy Katherine Hogeland and Abram Hogeland, minors, all reside in County of Blount" (the last 2 names are children from his 2nd marriage).

He was a land owner in KY when he and Catherine weremarried. Abraham settled his family on Hogeland Creek below Hayden,AL. Hwy 160 & I-65. The Blount co 1830 census does not list anyfemales so Catherine was dead by then. Abraham did not leave a will,the death was recorded in 1841 in Orphans Court, Jefferson co, AL.The County lines have been redrawn so Abraham technically lived inboth Blount and Jefferson counties. Source Kay King 02/08/2000. The 1810 Green co census list two Hogelands, Isaac on pge 246, andAbraham on pge 262. Abraham received 53.5 Acres from his father, William via will in 1799. He would have been about 19 yrs of age when he paid taxes on realestate in 1792. Per listing of children provided by Kay King, Both Eliza & Elizabethwere born in Green co, KY in 1806 & 1808. 1810 Green co Census: Agrees with the Males, Not the Females.
