Notes
http://mckownfamily.com/g1/p1224.htm (book excerpt)
Benjamin Seavey was the eldest surviving son of Thomas and his major heir according to "Salic" law which was then in common usage in England, United Kingdom. He is believed to have had a wife, Abigail, who was the mother of at least his older children; but when he made a deed in lieu of a will, his wife was Mary.
It is recorded that in 1693, money was due him for carpentry work at Fort William and Mary. He witnessed a deed with a John Tuck in 1685, and served on the Grand Jury in 1695.
On February 3, 1729, he and his wife, Mary, made a deed naming son William administrator, and giving him the homestead, " except the part near Oliver's Neck that son Bejamin, Jr., used to mow".
After William died , the deed was not invoked until June 24, 1761, when daughter Elizabeth Dowst and her husband Ozem Dowst asked the court to settle the estate. Final division was made on August 1762.
The deed does not mention son Moses, but he received the double-share as eldest surviving son in 1762, so undoubtedly his mother was the second [third] wife, Mary.2
