Abigail Jackson was born on December 5, 1755 in Elizabethtown, Essex County, New Jersey and was baptized on April 18, 1756 in St. John's Church, Elizabethtown, Essex County, New Jersey. Her parents were Nathaniel Mitchell, Sr and Abigail Mitchell. She was a Housewife.

Abigail married Maj. Benjamin W. Jackson on August 20, 1774 in Essex County, New Jersey. Together they had the following children: Sergeant Ziba Jackson; Isaac Jackson; Charles Jackson; Elizabeth "Betsy" Allen; Phebe Vennum; David Jackson; Daniel Jackson; Judge Benjamin Jacob Jackson, II.

She died on November 1, 1843 in Bellville, Richland County, Ohio, United States and was buried after November 1, 1843 in Bellville Cemetery, Bellville, Richland County, Ohio, USA.

Oscar Burton Robbins' book, pg 20 says "He and his wife Abigal are buried in the old cemetery at Bellville. The inscription on his monument reads 'Benjamin Jackson died June 6, 1842, aged 91 years, 3 months.' Hers reads "Abigal wife of Benjamin Jackson died Nov 1st, 1843, aged 88 years, 10 months, 25 days, the inscription is weathered badly now.

I do NOTE that Robbins' record of Benjamin differs slightly by saying Benjamin was b 5 Mar 1752 and died 5 Jun 1842. (I had not noticed until now how Abigal's name was spelled in the Robbins book and maybe on her gravestone! Later papers spell it Abigail.)

Abigail (Mitchell) Jackson was the second daughter and second child (of 10) of Nathaniel Mitchell (1728-1773) and his wife Abigail (Harris) Mitchell Conkling (1831-1822). Abigail's mother Abigail was widowed twice. Both mother and daughter were baptized in the same church - St. John's Episcopal Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Younger Abigail was baptized at St. John's on April 18, 1756. Her mother Abigail Harris was baptized in this same historic church on March 28, 1731. This church, St. John's Episcopal Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey dates back to 1707. Members of the Mitchell family began arriving in Ohio in 1808.
