"Clerical errors in and misinterpretation of original Weymouth vital records caused that town’s published vital-records volume to attribute to William2 Carpenter a son Abraham and to identify him as Abiah’s twin. Amos Carpenter correctly concludes that Abraham did not exist but nevertheless retains the idea that Abiah had a twin—his sister Abigail (see Carpenter [1898] 46). It has since been established, however, that she was several years older than Abiah (see Abigail 3 sketch, par.1). There was neither an Abraham nor a multiple birth in this family ( The American Genealogist, vol. 9 (1932) through present 70:200–3). When Abiah Carpenter was born on 9 April 1643, in Weymouth, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America, his father, William Carpenter Jr., was 39 and his mother, Abigail Briant, was 38. He married Mary Redaway on 25 May 1660, in Rehoboth, Bristol, Plymouth Colony, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in Weymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America in 1643. He died in 1688, in Rehoboth, Bristol, Plymouth Colony, British Colonial America, at the age of 45, and was buried in Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island, British Colonial America.
