About Aaron Moses Beard
From FindAGrave:
It is not known actually where Aaron and Kizzie Beard are buried. They may possibly be buried on this same property at the John E. Beard Cemetery. John E. Beard was their son, and Aaron and Kizzie lived here also.
In May 2008, Mr. A.G. Alexander (who lived his entire life across from the cemetery on Coffey Rd.) stated "there were two graves under an old cedar tree too big to reach your arms around on the left just as you enter the drive way." The tree and tombstones are no longer there.
(Note: The location described above is just a few yards away from where John and Rebecca are buried.)
PIKE CO., MS CENSUSES: 1820, 1840, 1850
MARY CARTER (KIZZIE'S MOTHER) IS IN THE HOUSEHOLD IN AT LEAST ONE OF THE CENSUSES (LIVING WITH RICHMOND AND JANE BEARD DUNAWAY, IN 1850, PIKE CO., MS) BORN CA. 1777.
IN THE 1840 CENSUS, REAL ESTATE VALUED AT $100. IN 1850 CENSUS, LIVING AS NEIGHBORS TO JOHN E. BEARD, THEIR SON, AND ISAAC BRUMFIELD.
AARON IS ALSO LISTED IN THE 1825 AND 1843 TAX LISTS OF PIKE CO. IN 1825, HE PAID $.88 TAX ON 30 ACRES OF LAND.
LIVED IN T4, R9, S34:
FEB. 24, 1853 - BY DEED, AARON BEARD TO JOHN E. BEARD PART OF SE QUARTER OF NW QUARTER.
Aaron died about 1874-1876 in Marion Co., MS, as that is where he was living at the time. It is most probable he is buried in the area of Holy Springs, Marion Co. either at Holly Springs Church or very near Carr Hill at the beginning of Evergreen Creek where his property was.
Aaron Beard, was born 18 Feb 1797 in South Carolina, a twin to Moses and sons of John & Mary Blackstock Beard. He was the only child of John & Mary to come to Mississippi. All others except for one that went to Kentucky, remained in Tennessee.
Aaron married Kizziah Carter, daughter of William & Mary “Polly” Thompson Carter, in Tennessee about 1813. In 1815, their first child, Jane was born. They must have left almost immediately for Mississippi. As there next child, John, was born in Pike Co., MS in 1818.
Aaron is listed in the 1816 Territorial Census of Pike Co.
Apparently they came to Mississippi along with Kizzie’s parents, William & Mary "Polly" Carter. Both William Carter and Aaron Beard are in the 1820 census of Pike Co. (The 1830 census is missing.) Aaron can be found later in the 1840 and 1850 censuses. (Polly Carter is in the home of granddaughter Jane Beard Dunaway in the 1850 census.)
The two families homesteaded in the Topisaw/Carter’s Creek area, where Aaron & Kizzie reared their large family of 16 children: Jane, John Elbert, Polly, William Monroe “Billy”, Aaron Moses “Lem”, Syrena, Rhoda, Armina “Sina”, Viney Cumi “Una”, Francis Hayes, Christopher Dyas, Thomas Reecy, Louvinia “Vincie”, Zachariah R. “Zach”, Lavista “Lou”, and Kizziah Elizabeth “Lizzie”.
The homestead was in Township 4, Range 9 east, Section 34 of Pike Co. It was sold in 1868.
Records indicate about this time, Aaron & Kizzie withdrew their membership from the Bogue Chitto Baptist Church in Pike Co., and transferred to the Holly Springs Church in Marion Co. His is the first name that appears on the original membership list of Holly Springs. Aaron and Kizzie settled on property near the Holly Springs Church where their children Frank, Aaron Moses, and Sina Beard Carr settled.
Kizzie died not long after, about 1869. Aaron then took on the young niece of Kizzie as his wife. Marriage records of Lawrence Co., show his marriage to Martha E. Carter in 1871. A daughter (Mary Ann Artemitia) was born to this union c1875. Aaron probably died during Martha's pregnancy c 1874-1875. His will is recorded in the Marion County Will Book A_B, page 1. It was written 7 May 1873, leaving everything to Martha. (The property described in the will was the NE 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Sect. 21, T 4, R 12.) Martha's second marriage was to John Thomas Delaughter in 1879 and they had a large family.
Aaron can be found in 1873 Marion Co. Tax Roll where it shows sons Aaron Moses and Francis Hayes assessed poll tax and personal property, and Aaron was assessed only for one horse.
It is unknown where Aaron and Kizzie are buried. It is most likely at the Holly Springs Church in unmarked graves. Martha is buried beside her 2nd husband, John T. Delaughter, in the McGehee Cemetery, Bogalusa, LA.
(Much credit and thanks to Gregory A. Price for his unrelenting efforts and research for much of this material.)
