About A.I Jainu-Deen
Born on 14 August 1864, Mudaliyar Jainu_Deen was a self made man, land owner and tea planter. He owned two tea estates, Craigmore and Deensland. He was made a Mudaliyar by H.E the Governor of Ceylon Sir H. Macculam on Coronation Day 22 June 1912 and J.P & U.P.M on 26.2.1912 for the Badulla, Hatton & Nuwara Eliya districts and was presented to the Majesties King George V and Queen Mary at the inauguration of the Wembley Exhibition London in 1924. He toured Europe and Egypt with his wife and three sons Hajie Thajudeen, Hajie Nasoordeen and Haji Noor. They were the guests of Sultan Abdul Majid Khan in Switzerland and of Sultan Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia. A.I Jainu-Deen had the privilege of entering the Kaaba with Sultan Ibn Saud and died in Mecca at 3.00 p.m on 14th July 1924 and was laid to rest at Jannnathul Mala the same day.
