The idea of forming a Lerin Region Association was born in the early 1980’s. As the numerical strength of the village associations began to decline, organizers found it prohibitively expensive to provide their members with quality programs and as a result their activities subsided, and in many cases, halted. Thus, people from these small villages who were interested in participating in Macedonian cultural events found themselves isolated from one another.
The Lerin Association was formed to create a welcome climate for all the people from the Lerin Region, especially for those whose village associations no longer functioned. The Lerin Region Macedonian Cultural Association of Ontario was born on August 30th, 1994 when it became a non-profit Corporation in Ontario.
The association’s goals are to provide its membership and the Macedonian community at large, with quality Macedonian cultural programs such as annual dances and picnics.
The traditional “Lerinsko ORO” is an annual event scheduled around mid November.
The traditional “Lerinski Picnic” is also an annual event scheduled for the middle to end of August before the children go back to school and as a last summer event to give everyone one last opportunity to enjoy the outdoors before autumn sets in.
