I've spent a tremendous amount of time to enter my family tree "Parent". I've used a published book and typed family tree that I inherited to add to Geni web site. You can find details of the Parent Family in the book.

The Genealogy of the French Families of th Detroit River Region, 1701 - 1936
By Christian Denissen

Alphabetical index can be found here.

Then search the page number here

This book was written by an English priest and so many names have been "englishised"
I try to reserve our Parent Family french heritage and prefer that we use the french names.

Peter is Pierre
Geneveva is Genvieve
etc.

Sometime this spring (2011) many famalies have been merged into my tree. I can no longer find the data I entered. There are many conflicts and duplications.

There are pending merges of Pierre Parent B 1610 and same nme B 1630.
I think this may not be a proper merge.
I'm asking all the Parent Family to try and resolve these conflicts.

Ray, can you give us links to the specific profiles about which you have merging questions? We can help you a lot more that way. I'm sure you're aware of this already, but just in case you're not, the historical tree on Geni is a collaborative, shared project, so merges should be expected. The goal is to have only one profile for every individual.

On Geni, we typically use the names that people used for themselves -- so if your ancestors called themselves by their French names, using their French names makes sense. However, you may also want to include the Anglicized names as alternates because many of your Parent relatives will probably look for their ancestors under their Anglicized names. Including both will also help improve search results on Geni and will help to answer any questions about citations using two different names.

Also, just to let you know, you've posted your e-mail address on a public forum, so anyone on the Internet can see it. If you're not comfortable with that, you may want to delete your above post and resubmit it here without your e-mail appended. On the other hand, if you're fine with it being visible, you have nothing to worry about!

Ashley, Thanks for the interst. When the merges happen is it better to reslove from the bottom up or the top down. I did one of these that I felt comfortable in fixing and it seemed that for every merge I approved 3 more conflicts come up. The Top Parent that needs to be resolved is Pierre Parent b1630 . I can't find him in my original research and so I'm not sure if he is born 1610 or 1630.

How do I get the profile to send to you in this forum as there are 41 profile managers for Pierre Parent.

How would you put in the french and Anglized name for the profile. I have been putting in last name as born last name and then adding the married name. I like Pierre wife's name shwon as Jeanne Parent (Badeau). I know that Quebec area and the detroit river area back in those days was all french so to show the name of Peter for Piere in my opinion is wrong. There is a few of the family names that have been shown as Parant which is an English person writing literaly for a French person that can't read or write which would be common back then, so do we write Parent or Parant?

Thanks for the help.
