Gregory Ballard was not born in Kent in 1370. Gregory did not die in Kent either. The children listed for him are a mix of his actual children and some of his grandchildren! A lot is know about Gregory but you have to research it. There are NO known living descendants of this line despite the claims of many hundreds to be connected!!
Paul, it's great that you have such an interest in accurate genealogy! I have two suggestions for you:
1) When you are going to contradict sources on profiles, it helps to provide your own sources backing up what you are arguing. Can you cite the information you're providing by showing us where you got it? Sources you can share on-line, especially primary sources, are always preferred.
2) Geni is a collaborative project. If you encounter profiles with what you believe to be incorrect information, and you can source your own information, you can edit those profiles to make them more accurate. Doing this will require you, however, to collaborate with the profile managers. You can click on the "Request to Edit Profile" link on any profile in order to request collaboration.
Hi Ashley,
(1) Actually I didn't contradict any sources just Ancestry World Tree or One Tree or whatever. As you will appreciate, they are not sources they are repositories and in every case I referred to they hold unsupported pedigrees which for the medieval Ballard lines are almost pure conjecture, fabrication and myth. Since I have spent 20 years and many thousands of pounds locating, transcribing and publishing to the internet the primary source material for Ballard genealogy you will forgive me if I leave it to the individuals to actually go and find it.
(2) Since no living person can actually prove descent from this particular medieval Ballard pedigree I see little point in correcting the information shown. The honest thing for these individuals to do is to leave Thomas Ballard as the top of the pedigree and add a note to the effect that it is currently impossible to say which English line Thomas was descended from. The entries back beyond Thomas should then be deleted so as not to corrupt the record related to the Gregory Ballard line.
Sorry that all sounds very negative but having spent a great deal of time and effort over the past years in trying to encourage people to correct their Ballard pedigrees only to be ignored or abused I am frankly not disposed to be very generous or subtle about it these days.
