Leonard Bellin

BELLIN, LEONARD B., MD, 89, a pediatrician for 50 years, died Monday, July 4, 2011. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Borodach) Bellin. Born in and a lifelong resident of Providence, he was a son of the late Archie and Goldy (Brodsky) Bellin. Dr. Bellin was a graduate of Brown University and Tufts University School of Medicine. He was a Francis Wayland and James Manning Scholar, a member of Sigma Xi Scientific Honor Society at Brown University and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society at Tufts University. He was on the staff of Rhode Island and Women and Infants Hospitals. Dr. Bellin had been a member of the Brown University Medical School faculty since 1973 serving as an assistant clinical professor. He was also a member of AMA, RI Medical Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Temple Emanu-El, Providence. Dr. Bellin served as a captain in the US Army Medical Corps during WWII serving in both the Philippines and Japan, and in the Korean War. He is survived by his children Steven Bellin of Shorashim, Israel, Susan Peskoe of Glen Rock, NJ, and David Bellin of Maalot, Israel; his grandchildren Jonathan, Nitzan, Gilad, Adi, Sarah, Ari, Ayelet, Yair, Noam, and Eitan; and his 5 great-grandchildren Shalhevet, Hadar, Matan, and Shalev. His funeral service will be held TODAY, July 5th at 1 PM in Temple Emanu-El, 99 Taft Ave., Providence with a burial in Lincoln Park Cemetery, Warwick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Leonard and Shirley Bellin Endowment Fund at Temple Emanu-El, Tamarisk Assisted Living, or Odyssey Health Care. Shiva will be observed following the burial at Tamarisk, 3 Shalom Dr., Warwick, RI. Arrangements by Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel.
