Hi Uncle Carl or anyone,

I am trying to get some more information bout the person identified as Shushoo Guerra in our tree.

What is Shushoo's real name? Anyone has a photo of her? Was she legally married to George Blackburn? Any information on her parent's names or where they came from? What was her ethnicity? Was she also the mother of Roberto 'Pa' Belcon with another partner? If so, what was that partner's name? Any idea where she was buried? What was her birth/death dates? Where did she live? Did she have any brothers/sisters?

Answers to any or all of these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michael,
Shushoo Guerra, Shushoo was not her real name. She was my grandmother, her real name was Ynes Guerra, and was married
to George Blackburn. Mother of Nita Assam, Burtie Blackburn, Uline Blackburn, Monico Blackburn, and my mother Andrea Blackburn.
I have photo of her in black and white. She was Spanish. She was not the mother of any Belcon. I have photos of where she was buried.
I live with her for 25 years in Sangre Grande. She had 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Her eldest sister was your grand mother (Theresa) grand mother (a Belcon).

Thanks for the clarification Carl.

1. Can you email me those pictures?
2. What are the names of her siblings?
3. What are the names of her parents?
4. If Theresa was her eldest sister, did she have any link to Roberto 'Pa' Belcon?
5. Do all of Ynes' siblings share the same parents?

Thanks in advance.

Hi again Carl

I was reviewing the copy of a family tree chart that I got from Janet some years ago that I suspect was created by you (i think in 2005). There are some things specific to your family on the chart that is not too clear to me that I need clarified:

1. Andrenette (Andrea) was married to Stanley Stephen Kissoon, but none of the children carried that name. Is it that they were married after the children were born, or was she married more than once?

2. I see two paths to your name - one directly from Andrenette, the other from the line joining the box with Hatim Ali. What does this mean? Who was Hatim Ali?

3. Was your aunt's name Unine, Uline or Euline? I keep seeing different spellings referring to the same person.

4. Is your uncle's name Bertie, Burtie or Albert? The chart has Bertie but your post above says Burtie. Which is correct?

5. (not related to the Ynes Guerra thread) Do you know of someone known as 'Ma Ben' or 'Benbow', who is supposed to be the mother of Roberto 'Pa' Belcon? Any idea what her real name was?

Looking forward to your response which usually clears up a lot.

Hi Uncle Carl,

I know that I have posted a few times already in this semi-public forum (viewable by family members of course), but I have been going through some notes I've had for the past decade and have seen some stuff that really needs confirmation. If I have wrong info, chances are that I got it from another family member who may not have been sure themselves. This forum helps in clarifying these issues.

Notes I have on George Blackburn:
1. He was also called 'Dada'
2. He used to play quatro, that's how Monico grew up in Parang.
3. He was from Venezuela
4. Had a son named Syndey Blackburn - but not with Ynes.

Other general notes:
1. Ruthvin was a priest, but later left the priesthood and became married.
2. 'Ma Ben' lived used to live in a barracks not far from Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande (near Lily Amann). Later moved from the barracks to 'old farm road'. Ma Ben lived to be over 100. She still used to thread needle, bend over pot and cook etc. at that age. She had a hunchback. Was short, a quiet person.
3. Theresa had an aunt called 'Fifin' who had a brother named Sydney (not sure if it is the same as George's alleged son).

Hi Michael,
I am a one finger typist so hope the information given will be clear enough to
make my input understandable. As per my reply on 7/1/2011. Ynez (the spelling is YNEZ ) Blackburn...I can't remember the names of her parents
( I was to young) and also of my Grand Father, George. George Blackburn
was never called Dada. (a Belcon was). He could not play the quarto nor took part in parang. Dada Belcon made quartos, had a work shop.
He and uncle Pilling Guerra taught Monico to sing the spanish.
George Blackburn was from a twin, and they came from Grenada.
He had no outside children.
The family chart that Janet gave you was done by me on Autocad.
The photo I have is picture-form and some day I'II have to scan it.
Andrenette (Andrea) Blackburn was my mother, she was married to Stanley Stephan Kissoon in her latter years and they never had children. I was her eldest son and my father was Hatim Ali. She also had another son, Glenn Blackburn., And a daughter name Althea Blackburn. The three of us was before she married to Stanley.
Ynez Blackburn siblings...ten of them, five died before I was born, I knew these (look at the chart) Pilling Guerra (Male) Tootie Guerra, (male)
only their Nick names, Dede Guerra (male) , Lily (nee Guerra) Don't know her Married name. (Janet might)..and your great, great grandmother (Gangee Guerra, (I think she was also called MaBen) she lived over 100 years, and did live at the barracks for awhile...She is the one thet is connected to the Belcon"s...I think her children was Dada, and Natwai (ask Janet about Natwai)...
Ynez Blackburn never had a sister name Theresa..(look at the chart) one of her daughters name was ULINE (this speling) and BERTIE a son
(Monico brother) ...
Hope this will help..

Thanks Carl

Your response has really cleared up a lot for me.

Further clarification:

1. Is it that Dada Belcon and Pa Belcon is the same person? This would make sense as I understand that Pa was very much involved in Parang.

2. In your first response, you said about Ynez that "She had 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Her eldest sister was your grand mother (Theresa)" but in your last response you said "Ynez Blackburn never had a sister name Theresa". This sounds contradictory.

3. Until you get to scan the framed picture, it may be possible to take a close shot from a digital camera with good lighting. This may help in the interim.

4. So you have no information about a 'Sydney Blackburn' who had a sister called 'Fifin'?

5. Who would have more information about Gangee?

Thanks again.

Hi Michael,

1. Possible Dada Belcon and Pa Belcon was the same person, I only knew him as Dada.

2. The two sisters and three brothers I was thinking off, was the alive set when I was around .
My grand mother (YNEZ) eldest sister was Gangee or her other name Ma Ben. (no other information I have)
And I mean Ma Ben/Gangee was YOUR/YOU great, great grandmother,
which Theresa Lychoy (Mona, your mother came from).
3. Never knew or heard of a Sydney Blackburn, unless he had a nick-name.

Hello Uncle

While looking for other Guerras on Facebook, I was made to understand that there is a Guerra Family Reunion being planned for August 20th.

The intention is to unite or meet with Guerra descendents in Trinidad and to trace how we are all connected.

Would you be interested in attending?

Hi Michael,
At this time I would not be able to attend the reunion,
Thanks
Carl
