I'm not sure where to post suggestions to GENI staff....but the addition of some sort of integrated mapping function in GENI would be really helpful. Being able to quickly map individuals and groups of individuals at certain locations and certain dates would give researchers better insight into who was where and when....in addition, being able to "see" the movement of people/families may even provide geographic clues to aid in research. At this point, I'm trying to use Google Earth and place pin's....but that is really time consuming and annoying....More specifically, what I am thinking is using an integrated Geographic Information System (GIS) to map genealogical data built right into GENI. If anyone knows how to get this message to the decision makers....please feel free to send it up the chain....

ok, before anyone points it out...I just saw a mapping function in GENI....I'll try it out.....but here are some more idea's I found:

The mapping function on GENI seems very limited, and could certainly be improved....

Good idea. Integrating genealogical information and GIS can be very useful (to locate graves on a cemetery...).
What I like to see on Geni is the combination of ancient maps and birth / death locations. It would be easier to put in the right location. The current countries in Europe, for example, are pretty 'new'. Belgium was founded in 1830. Now I see that people write 'Belgium' for births before 1830... which is wrong (it could be the French Empire, Kingdom of Holland, Batavian Republic...)

I know that the Geni team are looking at something to do with the mapping functions as I have put forward an idea that I am working on... Place names duplicated throughout the world highlighted and with connected urls giving history including names of people involved with founding of the later named place etc. I will mention this thread to them.

Hi Jason,
I have a program that does something different but still relevant - hopefully I will get it to work with Geni API soon. It is about displaying a particular information (for example birth location)
