Dear Curators,
How do you get rid of all the people in the recently on line box that are not in your family
tree and why do they show up?

Hello Elyse
I'm not a curator, but I'll try to answer - the people you see are your collaborators or people you follow.
you can "unfollow" them and they will not be shown

In Account > Account Settings > Recent Activity
http://www.geni.com/account_settings/recent_activity
there is a setting for
Online Collaborators
untick the box for "Include my collaborators in the Recently Online module on the Home tab"

You should also notice the "Filter ▾" option to the right of the Recent Activity column on http://www.geni.com/home
