Hi there, I am tracing my ancestry back through to my
native american roots
Unfortunately i don't have alot to go on,
My great great grandfather is called Horace Bennett or Horace Peneti
and my great grandfather is Possibly William Bennett

My only living relative to this line is Daphne Kake, my Grandmother
If anyone has any pointers or tips this would be great

What tribe or part of the country are we talking about? What years approximately? Is there a public profile you can "tag" (the oldest ancestor in your tree) so we can see it?

See Tagging under ==> http://wiki.geni.com/index.php/Glossary#T

I hate to be such a snoop, but I only did it to "help."

I found on Facebook that your grandmother (or someone with her exact name) is living in Perth, Australia. This Daphne on Facebook has a lot of Bennetts on her Friend list. Upon looking at photos of various Kake and Bennetts, it appears that they may be Maori mixed ethnicity or of possible Asian?

I found a person with a similar name as your great-great grandfather Horace Bennett or Horace Peneti. This guy's name was Koraha Peneti Horace Bennett Pita Damora. Possibly shortened to Horace Bennett at some point?

Koraha Peneti Horace Bennett Pita Damora
Birth: 9 Oct 1913
Whangaruru South, Whangarei, New Zealand
Death: 7 Mar 1957

His parents were:
Waitai Hohepa Pita Damora (Father)
Ngahuia Wepiha (Mother)

Are you absolutely positive that Peneti is a Native American surname and not Maori?

Yes this is true,
Bennett is a common Native american surname which is why i have chosen to research Bennett.
Peneti is not however and is associated with the maori side perhaps. I am speculating it was his wifes maiden name but I am unsure.

I am still waiting on responses from both Bennetts and Kakes on facebook in response to bloodline

Unfortunately I have no idea what tribe for the moment, I don't think that my great great grandfather was native american is common knowledge amongst many of my family members as a large portion of that side is maori. I will update further when I have information

Cool, at least we know we're on the right track. Keep us posted. And good luck on your research.

My grandmother's mother was Lucy J. Bennett. We were always told we were part Native American. Long Island surnames web site shows family lines but not whether they were Native American or not.
