Edmund Rice Profile Cleanup

At least the wives are still correct, and no imaginary parents besides "not sure" (not the greatest naming convention there); but he's got too many children again (in reality: 12; in geni land, showing 19). Also not sure what he's doing with a brother there.

I would challenge someone who wants to learn more about "about cleanups" to step up to the plate.

Hello. My name is Ronald Rice and I am a direct descendant. I'm working on clean up. It appears that some of the information now is not even what I originally added. However, due to the volume of information I decided to work my way up and have completed my g-g-g grandfather, Artimus Rice. He was the first son of Ithamar and his fourth wife. Hopefully, as time allows, I will be able to get the information cleaned up and correct. Any information you can pass along is also appreciated.

Ive been working on this part of the tree for years. I have a great deal of info/sources on the descendants, but the mess continues....Im more worried about keeping the tree clean then the about fields for now.

Im willing to be Henry is his brother, there is a ton of circumstantial evidence, and with a few more days or weeks, I may have some autosomal DNA evidence to add as well ;) They married sisters, which is a really great clue but then again, it also negates the autosomal DNA evidence .

Ronald Rice, the reason there's a lot of additional info there is that every time another copy of his profile gets merged into the master profile, everything just dumps into the "About Me" field. That's how you get big messes like that.

Kris Hewitt 🧬, I agree that keeping the tree tidy is most important. But in case someone wants to take a break from that, there's always this. :)

Does anyone working on this project have close enough ties to the Edmund Rice Association that we could ask them if they'd be willing to contribute a bio, since they already have so much written up?

If i find 5 min to write an email there are some people there at the ERA I could ask, sometimes Im a member ;)
I could do it myself, and if I find 15 min I might just work on that, I am soooo busy these days (6 mths pregnant, working as a pro genealogist and so on lol!)
Id like to report that my notes field in my genealogy program has a nice pretty bio but that would be a lie ;) it looks much like his "about" page here on geni.

Mazel Tov on the pregnancy -- is this number 2? Very interesting about the brother Henry and the marrying sisters bit. Does that end up with some confused DNA results? :)

We lost a relative in geni? I currently show you as 10th cousin once removed - it was 9th cousin (once removed) before, and you and cousin / curator Myrna were my among my closest geni-lationships. I wonder what changed. I'm showing John Prescott as 10th great grandfather.

One quick suggestion is to add to the curator note -- and you can take over curating any time you want. :)

It would be wonderful if you helped out with the cleanup. One thing I do now when I've got an "about me" I'm happy-ish with. I save it off as a text / notepad document to my computer hard drive. That way in future I can always replace brand new "wikipedia data dumps" with my nicely sourced cited and formatted information.

And / or -- post it in the "Family Project" for anyone to do. Hmm. That might be even better?

With Henry and Edmund marrying sisters, that makes Henry unlikely to be the father of Edmund, so most ERA etc think they were brothers (I do too)

For the DNA , the way autosomal DNA works is for example you and I Erica may match some DNA, from say John Prescott and/or his wife, or from Edmund Rice and/or his wife. But its hard to say without a great number of matches confirmed on paper which person has contributed which DNA segment. So if Henry and Edmund were not married to sisters, one could for example be told it is likely they were brothers, OR their wives were sisters, or there was some other relatively close relationship because you could match descendants thru autosomal DNA segments from each. Since they married sisters its a bit trickier.

I recently tested with 23andme, and its been interesting!

Kris Hewitt 🧬, have you found that worthwhile? I constantly debate it but the cost is so high. It's the same reason I've avoided using Ancestry -- it's cheaper for me to get original records directly from archives than paying a company for the convenience surcharge.

I have found the 23andme test worthwhile but VERY challenging.

It didnt cost me too much, as I got my test on a sale day, where the test was free, so I paid $50 for shipping, and commited to $9/mth for a year.

With your ancestry (Colonial American) you can expect about 700 matches at 23andme. Then its up to you to figure out how on paper they are connected, and start the process of what DNA came from what ancestor.

The test can match you with people as far as 10th cousin and beyond, so for example you and I could match as we are 10th cousins. We most likely wouldnt tho, as the odds of both of us inheriting the same segment of DNA from Edmund Rice is small.

If you have a very well documented genealogy back 10 or more generations it can help you to find clues tho of brickwall ancestors, because if you match someone you can ask them who their ancestors are and maybe that would give you a hint on the maiden name of a brick wall ancestor.

Ive only been at the 23andme site for a few days so I havent accomplished that much yet, but I have verified a few cousins, and what ancestors we had in common

As the test becomes cheaper and more common, the matches for each person will increase, and in theory we will be able to chart out the autosomal DNA of our ancestors, like we have done already for mtDNA and Y-dna.

There are days I hate Ancestry, but I could never get records cheaper, I probably use Ancestry about 10 hrs/day. but then, I get to deduct it as a business expense ;)

Just completed clean-up. Will appreciate many sets of eyes looking for corrections and improvements, as this was a bloody awful mess! Erica, what would you think of locking the About Me after everyone's had a couple days to look it over?

Parents have once again been added to this profile. I am going to go ahead and sever them and add Unknown Parents placeholder profiles. It would be great if a curator could then MP and lock those placeholders so that this does not continue to happen! Thanks very much for any assistance you can give.
