I am trying to trace the ancestry of my great grandfather, Erasmus Jacobus Maritz.He was married to Josina Christina Symington.I understand the Maritz family originally came from the Alsace region, & were called Marisse; but as so often happened in South Africa, French & German names were changed.I have traced some of these Marisse/Maritz lines,down,but then got stuck, & couldn't find a line to lead me to Erasmus.Can anybody help?.They lived in Sutherland,Northern Cape.
