Is there a way to connect Surnames that are alike and derived from another surname? For instance the French surname Demers is also spelled Dumoys, Demets, Dumay, Dumets, and the list goes on. It would be nice to connect all the variations and make them one. So, if someone were to click on Dumay, it would take you to the Demers page instead or ask you if you would like to view the Demers page (kind of like Wikipedia will ask me if I meant a Bloody Mary the drink, the folklore or the movie, etc if I were to type "Bloody Mary" into a search on their site.

Here's a link to the Demers surname page: http://www.geni.com/surnames/demers

The way I have done is to put a link to URL of the other surname(s) in the surname that I have added information to. Otherwise I copy the same entry to the other related surnames, but that's tedious.

I like this idea; it would be nice to have a more formal way to link them. I've been working on writing up info to start a page for the Crowninshield surname, and since the Crowningshield surname came out of it, it would be nice to have them more formally connected. Good suggestion.

I agree! Thanks Private User. Should we put a suggestion in?
