My father Carl August Freeman Heldt was a son of "Betty" Freeman. Her name seemed to be Beth, while Elizabeth' was known as Elise. I have a postcard written by Elise to her mother, Marie Nelson Freeman, announcing the birth of my father. Beth's middle name was "Illiana". I guess they weren't sure what state they were in Illinois or Indiana although I know there are adjacent counties in each state with the Name Vermillion or Vermilion. Besides the son Carl, there was anothe son Donald (not sure about middle name).

See the 1880 Census of Danville Il for "Alba Freeman" It lists wife Marie along with children August, Sophia, "Lizzie" (Elise or Elizabeth) and "Birdie" (Betty or Beth).

Marie was Marie Nelson. I know nothing more about Marie Nelson.

"Alba" Freeman only appeared on the 1880 census. His father was Christoffer Gjaerte Hjertquist, born about 1790 death in 1875. He was from Gotland, Sweden. His mother was M. Fahlstrom. Alba is shown on a Swedish genealogical chart as Ferdinand-Friman (Hjertquist is implied by nature of father's name.) How or why he dropped the Hjertquist is unknown.

The 1910 Census of Chicagolisting for Sigurd Kastengren is interesting since it lists Marie Freeman (his mother-in-law) and Beth as his sister-in-law. The Census enumerator is Sigurd HIMSELF.

Gabriel Hjertquist is a brother of Alba (Ferdinand) who also came to Chicago in the 1800s.
