This discussion aims to help discuss merge issues before they are completed, as a form of peer review, and to document relationships, especially the older ones. As the San Diego Family research I initiated has now reached the 1780s, we need to approach the adding of new lines with as much scholarly diligence as possible. Still, let's have fun with it, Cousins! :)

I have been attaching baptism and marriage records on many of the profiles of the deceased. If you find printed materials (service records, newspaper clippings, others) on DECEASED profiles in the family, please share here, so the managers can give you access. :)

Hi, Arnel Cruz San Diego, Private! We corresponded in October 2010 (through my site, amingangkan.com) about finding your great-grandfather Pedro. At the time, you were still researching the identity of his parents and were asking for my help. As I see from Arnel's inputs to the Geni tree, Pedro San Diego is now attached as the son of my third grand uncle, Rafael Roxas San Diego. Could you share your documentary sources here please? I have tried to validate the relationship but I cannot find a son of Rafael named Pedro in the Obando records. Pardon my OC tendencies -- it's what makes me a great researcher. Thanks so much! :)

Hi Kuya Private User! I know you have done a lot of work on the line of Rafael Roxas San Diego, your 2x great-grandfather and the brother of my 2x great grandfather, Teodoro Roxas San Diego. Could you help validate the matter I presented to Arnel and Rady above? I sent out an email to you and Peary along the same line -- sorry for the duplication. :)

NOTE FROM Arnel Cruz San Diego : Hi Mona: Sorry, I have no time to reply u because i have very busy for FilAm Deaf Festival of Arts & Culture at Holiday Inn (hotel) in Buena Park, California on September 17, 2011. Yes, Pedro is my great grandfather. The San Diego Family & Relatives talked much about Liberato (grandfather) & Pedro (great grandfather) thru Rafael from the roots of bulacan when i was a small boy.

Hi, Arnel Cruz San Diego . As Pedro is a very COMMON name, I need to make sure that we are talking about the same Pedro. PLEASE LOOK HERE: http://bit.ly/haLb25. There are six Pedro's. All were born in different parts of Bulacan. All were born between 1860 and 1906. None of them were the child of Rafael.

What changed between November last year when you first commented on amingangkan.com and now? Aside from my website, do you have a source document like a birth, marriage or death certificate or old letters? I have tried; but I cannot validate your Pedro as the son of my Rafael. I have looked through the baptismal records of San Bartolome de Tambobong, where all the children of Rafael were baptised. In this case, we cannot rely on old stories alone.

If we can't document the parentage, I hope you won't mind if we detach Pedro from my tree. It would not be good practice to perpetuate something we are not sure of. We can add him back as soon as we make the link. Hope that's okay.

We can be related; but perhaps through another way. Your side of the family would just have to do a little more research, considering the trickiness of the name. :)

EMAIL FROM Arnel Cruz San Diego: Hi Mona Liza: Oh Pedro San Diego ( 1860-1900) 6 different part of family in Bulacan area. I understand Pedro was none the children of Rafael de Roxas San Diego and Juana Avendano. I will remove the family tree of Rafael and Juana. I will research the parent of pedro san diego (birth:1862-1866). If i find him to add on them later.

Hi Arnel Cruz San Diego. I have detached Pedro from Rafael for now. I hope to make another connection soon!

I want to help you as best I can. I understand Liberato San Diego was born in 1891. Where in Bulacan was he born? I can check the baptism records for you.

EMAIL FROM Arnel Cruz San Diego: Hi Mona Liza: My grandfather Liberato Mendoza San Diego was born in Bunsuran, Pandi, Bulacan in 1891, and death july 1975 age 84. He's the son of Pedro San Diego and Ana Mendoza. Pedro's family and relatives moved to tondo, malabon, pampanga, tarlac , manila, quezon city and visayas from Bulacan because katipunan & American-Spainsh Civil War. Liberato was the superintendent in Philippine Canned Foods in Visayas during the war. He said he lost his relatives and birth certificates after ww2. The family of San Diego, Dela Cruz, Cruz, de Guzman, Mendoza and some lived together from bulacan. Some husbands of the San Diego Family had 2 or 3 wives. I will info u later.

Hi Mona Liza: Tita Carmen San Diego Arceo recently info me about my great grandmother Ana Mendoza's birth: 1859 and death: 26 july 1952 age 93. She said our great grandfather Pedro San Diego's age almost same as his wife Ana's age. Pedro's birth between1855-1860. He was born in Bulacan.
Please let me know if you can't find his birth certificate. Thanks much, Arnel

The details will help - thanks! I will look for a parish in Pandi and will let you know if I find Pedro's baptismal records, Arnel.

I was hoping to find some records for Liberato as an adult; but it seems there is little information of the Philippine Canned Foods Corporation. Would you know if they are called something else now? Or did they close down?

Thanks!

Hi Mona Liza: It's right that Liberato worked as Philippine Canned Foods Corporation in Visayas. My brother Radames went to Pandi, Bulacan for Pedro's baptismal record thru our grandfather liberato but there no have it because they have updated from 1924.

I found our great grandmother Ana Mendoza's birth: 1855 and death: 26 july 1952 age 97. She buried in rizal, guagua, pampanga.

The children of Pedro San Diego and Ana Mendoza moved to rizal, guagua, pampanga and sta. lubao, pampanga from bulacan.

Pedro's father & mother lived from Bustos, Bulacan. Please try to find their baptismal records.

The San Diego-De La Cruz family lived there before.

Thanks much, Arnel

Hi Mona Liza,

I checked great grand father Pedro was born in 1849. It seem correct. He moved to Lubao, Pampanga from Bulacan. He was fishing business. death date 1924, age 75.

I checked that Pedro was not the son of Rafael San Diego. I checked Theodoro, birth date 1839. Rafael birth date unknown. Rafael & Theodoro are the sons of Ramon San Diego.

Do u know what birth date of Rafael?

I will check Ramon San Diego.

Thank u very much,
Arnel

Hi Arnel,

Roman Candelaria San Diego (not Ramon) is my direct ancestor, so I have his baptismal records. See here: [http://www.geni.com/photo/view/6000000008647965454?album_type=photo...]. He was baptized on 05 March 1815, when he was six days old, so his birthday was February 28 of that year.

I derived information on Rafael Roxas San Diego from the baptismal certificate of his daughter Mena Avendaño San Diego, which mentions her parents AND grandparents.

I got my records from the San Bartolome de Tambobong Parish in Obando, where generations of the family have lived. I CANNOT FIND a related "Pedro", so far.

Here's one important distinction that has helped me determine if people belong to my San Diego line: Before 1900, my ancestors' last name was recorded as "Cuerva San Diego" (see source documents). It was shortened to "San Diego" in the generation of my great-grandfather (circa 1890s). Is that the same with you?

Good luck on finding a clean line to your antecedents!
