Everyone,
@AshLeigh McHale and I have returned from our 7th trip to Maryland since she has started the Phase 1 Trial. According to all the scans Ashleigh's tumors are all slightly decreasing in size. The ophthalmologist said that her left eye's proptosis, decreased from 27 mm in December to 24.5 mm this trip. The Doctor's are concerned about hypothyroidism as a side effect of the medication and on Tuesday had told us that she would not be getting cycle 7 of her medication. But early Wednesday the Doctor called (and woke me up, how rude, just kidding) and said after consulting with a Doctor that was involved with the Adult Trial, that no AshLeigh would be able to get it this cycle. So on Wednesday she received her 7th Cycle of Ipilimumab. All went well with the infusion and we flew home later that day. AshLeigh will be taking a new medication, Levothyroxine&l...;, to help control the hypothyroidism. According to the Doctor AshLeigh should receive one final infusion this summer, and then continue to be monitored after that. The Ipilimumab as activated her T-Cells to attack the cancer, and even after she goes off of the medicine her body will be programmed to continue fighting the cancer as time goes on.
