According to [http://www.fichierorigine.com/detail.php?numero=240053] the Rene Ancelin that is married to Claire Rousselot and is the father of Marie Ancelin [http://www.fichierorigine.com/detail.php?numero=240052], was baptized 29-10-1609. This baptism date is different from one that was formerly found at this same source. The parents have also been changed from François et Jeanne Ciclon to Mathurin ANCELIN et Marie Garsauld.

They were NOT changed. I just checked. The individual was merged with someone of the same name and had merges that needed to be taken care of, with 2 sets of parents.

I also went ahead and chose the correct dates after I finished off the merge.

Please view the tree now and tell me if you see errors on that individual. I can't read French so I can't read what you pasted.

Ah. I was listing the old information found at the Quebec Genealogical Society pages, as you wrote that the information had not changed - I was showing that it has changed at that source within the last year or so.

Anyway, the current page at the Quebec Genealogical Society for this Rene Ancelin shows his parents were Mathurin ANCELIN et Marie Garsauld.

Most of the French Canadian tree is full of these types of errors.Last week, I spent 4 hours correctly just one family. There were multiple merges of sisters onto sisters etc...

DLD, that is why, when available, I try to find first hand information, for example from the Quebec Catholic Parish Records to confirm as much information as possible. Lacking that, you hope your secondary sources are well researched.

@DLD I think in the past so many collaborators had separated hyphenated names. Names like Marie-Catherine were changed to Marie (first name field) and Catherine (middle name field) and she may have had a sister named Marie and a sister named Catherine-Archange who was written as Catherine (first name field) and Archange (middle name field), making peopel want to merge 3 sisters who had parents who apparently favored certain names.

I have 3 nieces, all sisters with "An" in their first name Anita (little Ann), Anna (Ann with an A) and Anya (Russian for Ann). I can imagine the hair-pulling and lack of sleep our descendants are gonna have 500 years from now. LOL

Robert so are you saying that François Ancelin and Jeanne Ciclon are NOT supposed to be the parents and that Mathurin Anceline and Marie Garsauld are the proven/documented parents?

I noticed the references to the Quebec websites above. Do they have an English link? Rene Ancellin caught my eye because he is a 9th great-grandfather to my Cote grandkids. Do these websites require a subscription?

@K.Anderson, it is my understanding (based on this source) that Mathurin Ancelin and Marie Garsauld are now considered to be the parents of this Rene Ancelin.

@Mary Kathleen Arnold (Butler), I do not think that they have any English on that site. The links that I listed above are free. I can give you a translation for some of the information:
