I am new to Geni. I have a number of brothers and sisters that I need to add to existing parents. How do you do that? Thanks.

Go to the tree and on the parents go to add child and go from there. Or go on the parents profile and on their page is has "Add Family" and you can do it there as well.

Thanks Louise,

I tried that. It just seems to add a duplicate person. I cannot seem to find a way to add an existing person.

For example, I tried to add the existing person Clementia Clarissa Lafontaine Lafountain as a child of Marie Mary Lacasse. I went to add child and typed in the exact name and it just added a duplicate Clementia.

I don't know what I am missing.

It sounds like you have to do that on the tree. Did you look at the tree tab and add it from there?

That does not work either. There is no prompt to say that this is an existing person. It just adds a duplicate person.

The only thing I can think of is to add a duplicate person and then merge them later. That is a very inelegant solution to what should be an easy process.

If the person's profile exists already, create a temporary duplicate, the way you did, and on the DROP DOWN menu of either profile, click on MOVE THIS PERSON and bring up the other tree and move the profile and drop it on the duplicate (or original) and it will start up a merge.

I hope it worked John. That's how I do it anyway.

It worked great. Thanks

It does take some playing around with the programs. I have one of the core members that help me when I really get stuck.

Geni is a sophisticated program but as you learn to use the different tools, it becomes easier. They do have video tutorials and hopefully will have more in the future, as well as online explanations. And you can always ask here in the discussions.

Thanks Hatte,

What I find most confusing is that of all a sudden there is someone else's people in my tree that I can somehow edit. I have inadvertently deleted a person on someone else's tree. I have to be careful about that.

Where do I go to get at the on-line videos?

Thanks again for your help.

or the "help" footer at the bottom of every page

There's a Login screen in the upper right hand corner that's linked to your geni ID
