I am trying to research this Elling Anderson Lien line. According to my sister, they were Anderson in Norway but took the name of Lien when coming to America via Canada. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. I also understand that there is a museum in Brookings, SD that deals with this family. Does anyone know about this museum? Thank you in advance.
I am sorry that I dont have any info about Elling Anderson, what I can tell you is that his father proberly will have the name Anders as a first name, Anderson mens son of Anders, for females the name will be Andersdatter.
In earlyer year we did not have a last name often they named them self a last name by the place they lived. In Norway there is church records that is on the internet free for every body to see, if you search the net for digitalarkivet you will be abel to find it.

To Edith Kendrick.Hi,I am new to posting on here, but have been researching the Andersen,Petersen family history for 3 years now. I have an Elling Andersen b.1796 that was from Bergen,Norway. Married Petriche Maria Nielsdatter on 31 Oct 1819.They had a son,Rasmus Andreas Andersen,b.1820, who then had a son named Rikard (Richard) Emiel August Rasmus Andreasen (Andersen) b.1853. Richard is my Great-Grandfather,lived in Chicago and was also from Bergen.I am from Chicago,as well, but live in AZ. now. I hope this helps. I am still researching, probably will be for a long time. Let me know any of your finds. Thanks, Barb Smith
