Faded Memories
Memories of friendships often make me cry
Not the secrets that were never told or the things we didn’t try
It’s the echoes of the laughter that quickly start my tears
All the special times we shared that have dwindled through the years
As we all get older we don’t have time to spare
To maintain the needed friendships with the ones who really care
The road of life has many bumps that inspire us to call
On the friends that we can count on to catch us if we fall
When we deny the love of others we only hurt our self
Our friends are not just play toys to be set up on a shelf
One day we’ll seek out comfort but no one will hear our cries
For we’ve ignored the needs of others and now we’ll pay the price
So recognize your true friends and treasure them each day
Or soon they’ll be like memories that slowly fade away

Karyn-
This is beautiful. And so true.
I just yesterday mentioned to my husband that an entire year had passed and I NEVER saw my best friend -- My maid of honor, my firstborn's God Mother. She and I live in the same town.
I'm calling her now.
Thank you. (May I share the poem with her, giving proper accreditation?)
