I got this in my home page newsfeed 25 minutes later, and with an automatic "follow" of further discussion notifications.

I got this in my family discussion notices... in bold. My home page on geni has this family discussion string... with a blank box, where you can type in stuff, responses, I guess or other info.... in this string are mannouncements of merges that people have done, pictures they have attached to profiles... etc.

It's "home" that you want to be in. That's where you get the "newsfeed," which is based on the Projects, Profiles and Discussions you "follow."
