I just discovered that I am related to both the David and Jordan "Ancient Planters". Both of these lines need a bit of work. I was thinking of creating separate projects for each of these - does everyone think this is the best way to go? Theoretically there could be projects for each surname. This may make it easier to clean up, keeping this project as a great overview.

I'm related to several and agree with trying to create something that can help others with projects that may relate and organize source. I was thinking of a Descendants of Ancient Planters but I like your sub-project by surname much better.

Okay, I'm going to create sub-projects for the Jordan and David families now.

Be sure and add the Reynolds Family project as associated projects, and possibly we need a Farrar Project (not sure if he's an Original Planter or not).

I've been working on "Cecily the Flirt" and she was married to a Jordan, a Bailey, and a Farrar (and not to a Montague or a Palmer). She's a Reynolds (probably) and an Original Planter herself.

Great, I'll create the Ancient Planters: Reynolds Family project now.

Wouldn't that be a duplicate effort?

We already have the Reynolds Project and most of the associated profiles in it.

Does William Farrar qualify as an Ancient Planter? He arrived in 1613 and bought an island. I'm not sure how the lineage societies work.

In my mind, the Reynolds project is for all Reynolds profiles, whereas the Ancient Planters: Reynolds Family project is specifically for Cecily and her descendants. You are right though, there is probably a whole lot of overlap.

Well, I like the idea of a little projects as showcases and detail. So its just about wrapping my head around how it should work.

For instance, I'd like to do a sub Project with the British merchant / entrepreneur / adventurers who started the Jamestown enterprise. And subprojects for each of the ship passengers. And participants in the Massacre of 1622.

So there will be overlap -- but each time a profile will become more detailed.

You have to look at the archeological artifacts from Jordan's Journey, and the analysis of the way the Jamestown Colonists lived based on it. It's an amazing find.
