Are any of you familiar with the Bassett Family Association site? Looks like a great resource: http://www.bassettbranches.org/

yes - VERY cool website.

Noah... also want to point out the DNA project http://www.bassettbranches.org/dna/casestudy.shtml

Basically - NONE of the Massachusetts branches can be proven to the earlier ancestral trees. There is some DNA evidence to suggest there are connections, but no documentation that shows the path.

So some of these MA branches that have ties to the earlier Bassett branches might be some wishful thinking, or at least some good guessing.

Very interesting, I'm adding this to the project description.

Thanks Noah! I saw you added it. I think that is a good way to keep people on the right track with these American Bassett lines. Tammy added a Curator note to one of the Williams. He's currently connected to an earlier ancestor, but it isn't proven, so for now we're just adding curator note to reflect that, but keeping him connected to his pedigree chain.

I'm amazed and impressed by how this project has grown. I didn't realize there was so much interest in the Bassett family.

I finally found my Bassett ancestor:

Hey! She's my 19th gr grandmother. I've been looking, too, to try to figure out exactly how I fit in to the Bassett tree. I didn't think at first I had a connection, but kept finding profiles that made me think I had to have a connection.

Noah... here is the direct link for the geni profile for William Bassett of Lynn, MA:
William Bassett, of Lynn

Can you make that a hyperlink on the front page of the Bassett project the way you did for the other couple profiles?

Oh and I looked at your Bassett ancestor... that part of he tree needs a lot of work. I can't even look at it again for a while. lol

We're related to the Bassetts by marriage - one of the Johnsons married a Burt and their sister-in-law (a Burt) married Capt. William Basset of Lynn, MA. Anyone Tammy is related to, I'm related to. Well, there's a good chance if it's an early American ancestor.

See what I mean:
Aliva Bassett, Countess of Norfolk is Hatte Blejer's 19th great grandmother!

Tammy and I seem to share a number of ancestors. This one goes through the Ruggles and Dyers and Stanhopes ...

Aliva shows up as my 21st great grandmother. I don't take them too seriously because I still find people along the path with duplicates and unresolved merge issues that concern me.
