I have fairly extensive material in Tree Maker, Other users find Geni a benefit? looking for comments

I would not have come close to extending out my family tree without the collaborative efforts here. Not a chance, no matter how well documented my more immediate family was.

Despite some annoying little glitches, I think Geni is the best free family tree site.

The ONLY thing that is aggravating about Geni is how one's tree can suddenly get messed up due to merges. However the benefit that Erica mentioned that you get from all the collaboration far outweighs the issues with mergers. There are very helpful curators who you can get to help with the merger issues. Merger issues tend to be worse with historical figures and it's wonderful to have the curators help with those ancestors.

I get more out of Geni by far than out of Ancestry, although I like Ancestry for raw information access and use it for research but keep my tree here and of course as a back up on a Mac program.

Hatte,

I think my methodology is the same as yours -- Ancestry for US records (census especially) can't be beat. But their trees are *not* accurate although sometimes they give me a reference point. The sourced data in rootsweb can be much better - but of course there's no original documents.

I was removed from management of a Geni profile by a curator after questioning the veracity of certain statements and pointing out hoax images. The questionable statements are still included foremost in the article, the images cannot be deleted nor disassociated with the profiles, and every statement which pointed out the error which could be removed by that curator was removed entire. I have been given no way to escalate the situation to higher authority beyond that curator. Therefore, I would not recommend Geni at this time. I write this with the expectation it may well also be deleted. No confidence.

Curators does not have access to remove anyone as a manager fro a profile.

Bjorn's right, curators don't have access to remove management of other people. We can only remove ourselves as managers.

Does the possibility that someone else may have pulled the trigger have any relevance to the experience one may expect here?

I reversed all my own edits and removed myself as manager while I was working in a secure environment with no access to phones or internet. Right.

Are you sure that you are looking on the set of profiles you have been working on?

Even if you removed yourself as manager of a profile your work would still be listed in the revisions log and if this was a line you have added you would naturally also be listed as a manager on the surrounding profiles.

Also, it may have shown green arrows where you might have had access to the node through a collaborator, and if that collaborator chose to stop collaborating with you, you may have lost editing rights to that particular node.

Mimi's explanation makes sense. Why assume that it's a curator who removed you? Especially since Bjorn explained that that's not at all in the curator's role as a volunteer.
