I am trying to find the burial ground for a Patrick Savage who died in Oct 1923 in the US Marine Hospital Ellis Island NY, the place of burial was given as West New Hempstead, any ideas on how I can locate the grave or cemetery would be good. I live in Ireland so I am not too good with NY locations. All help appreciated.

@ Chas.....New Hempstead is a small village of about 5000 people.
Was Patrick Savage possibly a Presbyterian? There is a Presbyterian Church there.....perhaps they might be of assistance. They will likely be able to give you the names of local cemeteries.

e-mail them at:
office@nhpchurch.org
or
pastor@nhpchurch.org

That's a good suggestion, Wijze, many thanks.

Here is another idea for my overseas friend -- was your Patrick Savage a US Veteran? It is possible he was laid to rest in the Long Island National Cemetery, here:

I also see the Department of Veteran Affairs has a United States National database to search for veterans.
