I like the idea of standardized place names AND I like the idea of historical place names.
A betterGedcom format would support multiple ways of referring to the same location based on geographic coordinates, historical names, current names etc.
I like the idea of data formats that can map multiple aliases for the same data and treat them as equal as far as comparisons.
Just because many genealogy programs don't let you add more than one place name for a single event doesn't mean it is not a valuable desired data structure to support.
