Josiah is my 5th Great Grandfather. I am currently unable to manage this profile, so I am dropping some notes here for inclusion into this profile at a later time.
Birth: Apr. 20, 1756
Death: Jan. 21, 1818
Josiah was the third son of nine children born to Timothy and Elizabeth (Anderson) Carpenter, and grandson to Timothy and Experience (Chaffee) Carpenter of Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts.
Josiah married Sarah Benedict in 1781 in Pittstown Township, Rensselaer County, New York. The lovely couple were blessed with twelve children: Phebe, Hannah, James, Daniel Benedict, Mary, Isaac, Jemima, Betsey, Sallie, Jane, Josiah, Jr., and Timothy.
Josiah served in the Revolutionary War on two separate occasions. The National Archives, Washington DC, as well as the Historical Section, New York State Archives, Albany, New York, contains data which indicates that Josiah was a Private and served in Captain Cornelius Wiltse's Company, Colonel Yates' 14th Albany Regiment which formed from the Hoosick-Schaghticoke area.
