If a name is too long in Tree View it wraps and takes up two lines, the being that then the birth and death dates will not be displayed. Is there a way to show someone's long name on just the top line so the second line can still be there and show the dates?

You can start by clicking the preferences tab at the bottom of the tree view and adjust minimum font-size. If not enough you could play with the other options to get a view you are satisfied with.
You could of course ask the profile manager to add a shorter Display Name on that specific profile.
