BROKEN AGAIN!!!!

Really, people - John Knox and Margaret (NOT "Marjorie") Stewart had THREE daughters:

1) ****MARGARET**** Knox, married Zachary Pont

2) *****MARTHA***** Knox, second or thord wife of Alexander Fairlie, DIED IN 1592, PREDECEASED HIM, COULD NOT POSSIBLY HAVE MARRIED ANYONE ELSE!!!!!!

3) Elizabeth Knox, married John Welch of Ayr. ***She herself explicitly told King James I/VI that her parents had THREE DAUGHTERS and NO SONS.***

There is a possibility that Margaret and Martha were *twins*, since they have such similar names and we have no reliable birth dates on any of the Knox children - but *they were not the same person*.

It was in the English capital that Mrs [Elizabeth Knox] Welsh obtained her famous interview with the King:

King James: 'Who is your father ?' Mrs Welsh: 'John Knox'.

King James: 'Knox and Welsh! the Devil never made such a match as that.' Mrs Welsh: 'It's right-like, Sir, for we never asked his advice.'

King James: 'How many children did your father leave, and were they lads or lasses?'

Mrs Welsh: 'Three, and they were all lasses'.

King James: 'God be thanked, for if they had been three lads I had never enjoyed my three Kingdoms in peace'.

Uh oh. My fault. Going too fast with all the new duplicates in this area. (Look around -- much of the area looks like a torpedo hit it.) I undid this merge. If you see any others, I'll be happy to undo them too.

It's a horrible mess, because people *will* keep mis-merging and latching on because royalty.

I think we need to dig up more information on Rev. John Knox's brother William the merchant. Some of those displaced children may be his (but not the ones that are wildly out of time).

Did some heavy lifting on brother William's line. Haven't got all the bugs out yet but it looks a good bit cleaner.

Much Knox information can be found here: https://archive.org/details/genealogicalknox00rogeuoft

It tends to be Way Too Much Information, needs to be sorted through carefully, and may include items that have been superseded by later research.
