We want Friends back + no Following of living profiles

I want friends back too!!!! What happened to our perfectly running support system? I was surprised to have the option gone this week. Big mistake of Geni, to omit "friends". "Followers" sounds like some demented cult of genealogists... We are all historical addicts true, but cult: NO!

Me too - I want my Friends back and I don't want that I am followed without my permission.

Following should be different function to follow historic profiles.

1. Want to have the Friends option back - a way to share information and give some people view-only access to your tree

2. Want to remove the option of Following for all Living and Claimed (=Geni members) profiles

I would like friends back. I'm not comfortable with "following" I would like to have bookmarks back as well.

Somehow this morning I was automatically following you after having read one of your posts. I unchecked follow. I never checked follow in the first place. I don't know how that happened.

Additional: concerning bookmarks, i and others have previously asked for bookmarks categories to help us better organize. I would like that.

bookmarks back + friends + fix the new merge system so that the profiles actually stack together if you cant merge them

Sorry for extra comments. I have just discovered I am following a whole lot of new people who I never checked to follow.

Again, sorry for more comments. I just went to undo all I'm following. I discovered have 1291profiles I'm following. This is a BUG. I did not do this.

I agree with Jason Scott Wills, please re-instate friends AND fix the profile stacking.

P.S. Following can remain only on Deceased Profiles - I want to know who is editing our common ancestors profiles.

Agree, it was a big drawback.

I had bookmarked a lot of profiles because they were profiles I should do something with later on, and I had invited a lot of friends to give them a read-only access to my tree.

Now both groups is swallowed by the Stalker lists, and the most annoying thing is that there is no approval of who is Stalking me. Before this change only my collaborators could follow my merge activities, - by inspecting my profile.

return Friends as it was, preferably with the list it was before "Fixing" - remove the ones I did not add as friends or did not accept.

It just took me about 3 hours to remove over a 1000 people I do not wish to follow. I'm burnt out now.

I haven't added anyone to follow since it was implemented. I liked the whole friends and family thing, better.

It was not only your Friends that were converted to Following, pending requests of friendship as well - you are now publicly following people that you sent a friend request to but it was never accepted nor rejected. Also bookmarks of private profiles were changed automatically to Following. So much about privacy..

Why not FRIENDS Circle and FAMILY CIRCLE..

Can invite people to either one...

I too, especially after the stalking incident with Mimi and Heather's outrage at having her family info on record...don't like the wording...

I regard the conversion of people’s bookmarks & pending requests to 'stalkers' as a particularly sinister way of flexing corporate muscle. Please do not take that road again.

Encouraging entry & maintenance of "private" info's one day & outing it the next - is a no go - no matter what any consent agreements & fine prints may state. We all know that our info might eventually get exposed, it's the Internet right, but to have it forced out into the open deliberately & without consent? No, never.

Keep access to close & personal 'stuff' on mutual grounds as much as possible - users to user & user to Geni - or we will be moving away from a positive collaboration environment towards a more cold & unfriendly place where trees do not grow.

Please restore "Friends" - so those Special People --who have mutually agreed to do so -- can See (but not change) my tree.

Please eliminate Followers - available even to those Without my permission to do so.
