OK, just worked for me. :)
But more often I copy and paste the URL of the profile from the browser, editing out "tab overview."
Joe,
You need to have a "geni-lationship" with the profile you're trying to tag. We can experiment. Try @ to open up the database, and see if you find me. My guess is you probably won't.
Then send me a "collaboration request" through my profile. I have Howton relations in Texas, it would be fun to see if there's a connection anywhere. My guess: once we have a "collaborator" geni-lationship, you'll be able to use the @ sign to find my name in a discussion.
Jonathan, the problem is that no list appears when I type @; however, I do know the list that you're talking about. I've used it successfully when tagging profiles to source documents.
Erica, you can see from my original question that I wrote @Joe Brous Buttrill but did not get a list. Surely, I have a "geni-lationship" with myself.
Even copying and pasting the URL (Joe Brous Buttrill) doesn't work for me.
My guess is this is some sort of Geni bug. How does one report such things to Geni?
I got an email from help@geni.com last night that this problem is now fixed. If anyone is still experiencing difficulties, please let us know.
Mimi,
According to help@geni.com, this feature only works if you are trying to tag someone with whom you have a pre-existing realationship, e.g. a family member or a collaborator. Of course, this severely limits the usefulness of this feature in Public Discussions. I've asked Geni to clarify the message to the right, at least.
