The family appears in the 1880 census with the birth order and naming established by John J Culp's report.
Also, I was told by my grandmother, Hulda (daughter of Elizabeth), that John J married Sarah against the wishes of his family since Sarah had been brought over from Europe as an indentured servant and was not suitable as a marriage partner. His family cut him off from inheritance - but he and Sarah loved each other and worked hard to raise their large family.
